Light at the end of the tunnel

Fred from Rangeview writes:

The Editor’s Note which featured in the 14 December edition of the News, titled What is going on? has reference.

You, and several other letter writers, depicted a rather negative but unfortunately accurate picture of the state of affairs in our neck of the woods, and country.

I was also taken by Pastor Mes’ column regarding the actions of the pessimist and optimist brothers to their Christmas presents – the pessimist’s unhappiness that his brand-new bicycle had only 10 gears and the optimist’s elation to a room full of horse manure, who shouted, while digging away with a spade, “where there is manure, there must be a pony”.

This persuaded me that, with a positive and optimistic mindset, the new year can only be better.

I did not have long to wait.

On 3 January after numerous phone calls and visits since August 2018 to inquire about the status of my outstanding driver’s licence renewal, I was told that it was indeed posted to Pretoria, where all licences are processed and printing gremlins reside.

What a start to the year! I have resolved to keep on digging until I receive my driver’s licence in 2019!
