My mother passed away and we had to arrange the funeral. So, knowing how seldom one sees the Traffic Department escorting the funeral procession to the cemetery, we decided to contact the local sector police instead.
We were informed by them that we had to go to the Traffic Department to register the funeral, and if Krugersdorp Traffic couldn’t do it, they as sector police would be instructed to assist us with the traffic.
To make a long story short, I went to them, filled in the one page application forms and before leaving I specifically asked the gentleman who assisted me if that was it, and whether there was anything else I needed to do to ensure their presence.
His words were, “No sir, that is it and you don’t have to worry about a thing”.
Come funeral day, what do you think happened? Absolutely nothing.
Nobody showed up to assist – neither the Traffic Department, nor the sector police. What is going on in our town? Does anybody take pride in his or her work anymore?
