Yes, it is an inconvenience. Yes, it complicates our commute to work and back. Yes, it has a big part to play in our economy.
So you can imagine my surprise when I asked a beautiful young woman, fairly newly married with a small child, “How is load-shedding affecting your family?”
Instead of blaming apartheid or the ANC, this woman had a smile on her face as she said, “It is so nice not to have the TV on in the evenings.” Yes, she could have switched the TV off at any time, but it is so easy just to switch it on and leave it on.
It made me think of a mantra I once read, “Your attitude will determine your altitude.” So true! If you tend to be critical, negative and pessimistic, you will always find reasons to be bitter. In fact, for some, the only exercise they get is pushing their luck, jumping to conclusions and running others down.
With all the inconvenience of load-shedding, maybe you have an opportunity to spend quality time making memories. A candle-lit dinner, and a family discussion, could be just what your family needs.
Life is not so much about what happens but about how you react to what happens.
All the darkness on earth cannot kill the light of a single candle. Jesus said this light is in all of us.
