The lead pastor of Kagiso Baptist Church, Reverend Tsietsi Motaung, believes that education is key to success.
More than that – he supports and helps those who are hungry for it.
Last Sunday, he had what he calls a ‘pastor’s appreciation’ event. Pastor’s appreciation is an annual event dedicated to those who are being appreciated by the man of God. It is held during a particular Sunday service.
Reverend Motaung expressed his appreciation of the learners in his church who passed matric in 2018. There were twelve of them, and they all received brand new laptops. The recipients were overwhelmed with joy.
In addition, church members also pledged monies to support the twelve students in their tertiary education. One member pledged R40 000 and another R20 000. The rest committed to giving what they can afford.
Experts from different disciplines were invited to come and motivate the learners. An engineer, who is also an Oxford University PhD candidate, was also there, looking for students who want to do engineering so that they can be sponsored.
The Kagiso Baptist Church lead pastor is showing that the church has a responsibility to address social and educational challenges. His initiative will go a long way towards helping local kids get the necessary education. God bless Reverend Motaung!
