‘We are suffering’

Sharon from Krugersdorp North writes:

We as tenant shop-keepers are at a loss. We have people from the street sleeping in front of our shops at night, and the mess they make looks bad in the morning.

They use the small garden or side of the building as a toilet. Even people who walk by or clean the streets use the side of building as a toilet. It smells bad and we have a big problem with flies. There’s a butcher on the premises, and even they have problems with the health issues we’re having.

Business is slow at times due to the street people being rude, drunk and doing drugs.

Clients don’t want to do business with most of the shops because of the problem. The issue has been reported to the letting agents and to the owner, but nothing gets done.

It’s been going on for a few years now. What are we to do? We have to make a living, but the way things are at the moment, we feel like closing doors and moving elsewhere.
