Almost got caught out

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

A few months ago, on my day off, I was driving along and day-dreaming, enjoying the peace of being alone, when my cellphone rang. I glanced down and saw the name of the caller, a fellow minister. I was sure it was work-related. Being my day off, I almost decided not to take the call.

He can phone back tomorrow, I thought. A feeling of guilt swept through me, and I decided to take the call. I’m so glad I did that. The voice on the other side said, “I am watching you”. As I glanced in my rear-view mirror, there he was with a big smile on his face. I was so relieved that I had taken the call. He would have seen me glance down, see his name and ignore his call.

We spoke for a few moments before we drove off. I cannot tell you how glad I was that I took that call. 24/7 people are watching us. All it takes is one mistake and a good name can be lost.

As a Christian, it is so important to be sincere and honest. People are watching us, just waiting for one mistake.

Most of us have been disappointed by a Christian. Today, I have a verse that should keep us all on our toes – Matthew 18:6 states: “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck….”
