True religion.
I wonder if you have ever caught yourself thinking things you should not be thinking. Not bad or ugly thoughts, but wrong thoughts. We are all familiar with the expression, ‘Looking someone up and down’.
Without knowing the person’s story or history, we judge them. We judge them based on their appearance, their possessions or their position in society. We are quick to jump to conclusions. We don’t give them the benefit of the doubt, we doubt their benefit. The Bible says, “Judge not, lest you be judged”. Jesus cannot be blamed for looking people up and down. A group of angry, religious people once brought a woman to Jesus who had been caught in the act of adultery. They were ready to follow Moses’ law to the letter.
“Stone her to death,” they shouted. Watch Jesus’ response. He does not try to sound politically correct or please the crowd. He responds with one of the most powerful and profound lines spoken in history. “He that is without sin, let him cast the first stone.”
Let’s give credit where credit is due. One by one the religious people turned around and walked away.
It is not just religious people who look others up and down, we all do it! And it is wrong. Everybody has a story and a history. Maybe it is only right to turn around and walk away.
Christianity, true Christianity is about love and grace.
PS. People who throw stones, only lose ground.
