• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
Worry is universal.
For some it is today, for others it is what could or may happen in the future. Most of the things we worry about are things beyond our control. Worry can have real physical and mental effects on us.
Harold Stephens said, “There is a great difference between worry and concern. A worried person sees a problem, and a concerned person solves a problem.” That is so true. Worried people look at the dark cloud, concerned people think how can we channel and benefit from all that rain.
Most of us naturally are worried about lots of things. Real things like jobs, your safety and your family. You may worry about crime, corruption and how it can affect your life. It is all real. But worry paralyses people, where healthy concern believes there has to be a solution.
The Bible, in a rather unsympathetic way, calls a spade a spade.
“Who of you, by worrying, can add a single hour to his life.” So true. In fact, worry could even shorten your life.
Some practical advice from one warrior to another. Stop, sit down, have a coffee. Look at your demon and say, “I am not worried about you, but I am concerned and that is why I am planning how to deal with you”.
Mountains or rivers can be barriers to progress, or just the challenge they present could be the inspiration you need. Tell yourself, “I am concerned but I am not worried”.
