• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
Soccer, by numbers, is the most popular sport on earth. 250 000 000 people play soccer regularly. The fans are worshippers, the players gods, and the stadiums cathedrals.
Billions watch soccer around the world. The names of the superstars are on the lips of the faithful.
Young boys and girls give up everything to become superstars. Escaping poverty and becoming famous drive these people. It is possible for a great player to earn hundreds of millions of rand.
In soccer only one thing matters, winning. To achieve that, you need a great coach and players with ability.
But the best coaches and the most talented players cannot achieve the one thing that matters – commitment. Commitment to personal development, the coach’s plan and the team. Commitment to the club and the millions of fans.
This commitment is the key to success in business and marriage. Marriage is more than vows, rings and ink on paper. To make a marriage work, it needs more than the kiss in a public ceremony. It takes commitment.
Sunday after Sunday, as I sit in church, I have to wonder how committed the average Christian is to the coach, the team and most of all to the plan. Christianity is built on commitment. Jesus was 100 percent committed. Are you?
