• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
Sounds so simple, so cliché, almost naive, but just being happy is something we all hope for. But in a real world with real challenges, is it possible to just be happy? I would be lying to you if I claimed to be happy all the time. Like you, I have frustrations, disappointments and, yes, chemicals in my system that I battle with. But I have the power to tilt my emotions one way or the other.
By complicating my life with non-issues, I can rob myself of times of happiness. By spending time with people who drain my batteries, I rob myself of moments of happiness.
Happiness is not the reward after you have made your world a perfect place. Happiness is your attitude in a world that is not perfect. Some of the happiest people I know don’t have a perfect world.
Happiness is the moments we create to catch our breath. Happiness can be when you do the simple things in life. Enjoy feeding the birds, go for a walk or spend time with the love of your life. For many of us, moments of happiness happen when we interact with our pets. One ray of light, one moment of happiness is enough to change your day.
Just be happy, things could have been much worse. My happiest moments is time spent with my wife driving in the car or going for a walk. Sitting quietly enjoying all the wonderful things God has created. A sunrise or sunset, spring blossoms or autumn colours, gentle rain or watching the stars.
When I am happy, I forget many of my problems. Happiness is contagious. If you are happy, it affects those around you.
