• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
In 40 years of working in the church and in our great town, I have never seen anything like it.
Covid-19 has changed all of our lives. Through all the frightening statistics and waves, one thing gives me hope. There is a 99% recovery rate. But before you take off your mask, stop sanitizing and join crowds again, remember those that have had near-death experiences. Family and friends who have gone through hell itself, fighting for air at home and in hospitals.
They have a story to tell. All the people that I have spoken to who have had a near-death experience tell the same story. Such an experience changes your life. Priorities change, attitudes change, hearts change.
To see someone you love, feel their touch, hear their voices is precious. Things you took for granted become your treasure. Other things that you gave so much time and energy to, lose their sparkle.
As one, these people say, “It’s the little things that are important”. The sound of birds chirping, the fragrance of a cup of coffee. A deep breath with no pain. An act of kindness, a smile, or just a thank you.
They say 99% will recover. I pray that after this is gone, we will all appreciate God, family and friends as our greatest blessings.
