Facebook truth

P.S. The three richest men on earth are divorced. Money cannot buy happiness. (Food for thought.)

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

Just a line from Facebook recently got me thinking, “You can only be truly rich once you have things money cannot buy”.

In our capitalistic society the value of a person is often determined by what he or she owns. Cars, houses and so forth are what we consider riches.

My parents moved homes 36 times in 36 years of marriage. I attended 11 different schools. We were pretty poor. One day I said to my mom, “One day I want to be rich”. Surprised, she asked, “What would you do if you were rich?” My reply was this, “I just want to be able to buy a hamburger if I am hungry”. Even then, for me, riches meant I could buy things. In one of Jesus’ parables, he tells a story of a very rich man who kept making money. Jesus said, “You fool”. If you die tonight, you cannot take any of it with you. This caught my eye, Luke 16:23, “Life is more important than food, and the body more important than clothes”.

Maybe many of the people you consider to be rich are actually poor. And maybe some of the people we would consider as poor, are actually rich.

I am wealthy today. Not because I can buy a hamburger, but because I have lots that money cannot buy. How rich are you?

P.S. The three richest men on earth are divorced. Money cannot buy happiness. (Food for thought.)
