• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
How old are you? The obvious response to this question is to refer to your date of birth.
Then you know how old you are. But this is only one aspect of age. We all know people who mature very late in life. Others at a young age are very mature.
But at Christmas time we are all the same age. We love the surprise of opening a gift. We appreciate the excitement expressed when someone opens a gift we bought and wrapped. We all understand the truth, “It is better to give than to receive”.
It is in the middle of Covid that Christmas is so special. Unemployment, corruption, sickness and death of a loved one make us aware that family and friends are gifts underappreciated. With fuel at an all-time high and soaring cost of living, our budgets are limited. Our gifts may be smaller but it is given with love.
Young and old, rich and poor, Christmas is a time to remember God’s gift to all mankind. A child is born, a saviour, Christ our Lord.
True generosity is not giving what we don’t need. True generosity is when we share with those less privileged than ourselves. Today, as God did 2 000 years ago, we don’t just give of what we have but of what we are. Blessed Christmas, Mogale.
