LETTER: Quick to judge

'I pray for the day when crime will not be the norm and where everybody will have access to the basics for a life of dignity' – Local Pastor.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

Someone recently forwarded a video clip to me of a scene in Gauteng. Hundreds, if not thousands of illegal electricity connections. Illegal and yes, very dangerous. My first reaction, like most of you was, where is the police, where is the army, where is the president?

But my quick judgement brought me to a few personal questions. “What would I do if I was unemployed, unable to provide for my family.?”

Yes, you can start throwing stones, writing condemnation to the News, “Pastor Mes supports crime”. No!! Crime is always wrong. Illegal is illegal no matter the circumstances.

But I just asked the question. Some people say there is 60% unemployment in South Africa. Corruption is out of control. The rich are getting richer and the poor poorer.

I wonder if this pen was in the hands of Jesus Christ, if he had to comment on the video, what would he write?

Would he judge the people with the illegal connections or the people who caused the problem?

I pray for the day when crime will not be the norm and where everybody will have access to the basics for a life of dignity.

All are equal in God’s sight. Amen
