LETTER: What has Mogale City become?
A resident asks how the mayor chooses to ignore their pleas for water.

Dear newly appointed mayor.
I hope you will get this letter (I know your number changes very often to avoid answering questions) as I understand the councillors in your area have not received any feedback from you regarding the water situation in Mogale.
It’s our constitutional right that every person has access to clean water. Yes, there has been maintenance done but Mogale has not once thought of what this will entail when the water does not return.
Some people have water some do not – as people ensure they take the little trickles of water from the tap which does not allow all areas to be restored.
A suggestion has been sent through to you Mr Mayor to close the outlet valve on the reservoirs to ensure all the reservoirs fill up sufficiently and everyone has water.
Why are you ignoring your councillors and not supplying them with feedback that they in turn (not you) will relay to the public?
Why are there no water tankers in Krugersdorp? I understand Kagiso has and or had water tankers available to them but we don’t.
Kids are supposed to go to school without even being able to wash their faces?
What has Mogale City become? We have had more feedback from our former Mayor (he never ignored the community).
The Krugersdorp News approached MCLM on the matter, which responded with the following:
The recent water situation and public frustration stemming from the non-availability of this priceless resource have also been noted by the municipality’s water services.
In terms of managing the effects of such a major shutdown by Rand Water our bulk water supplier going forward, extreme emergency measures may also be considered.
With regards to the communications and updates on the water availability, the municipality sent updates, including to the News which has also been extensively covered by the newspaper. Kindly note the following links from the News’ website on MCLM’s communication on the matter. This was also uploaded on the municipal website.
• 58-Hour water shutdown will affect parts of Mogale City
• Full restoration after shutdown to take several days – municipality
• Parts of Mogale still dry due to water shutdown
We also shared messages via social media (WhatsApp) specifically. The very messages are also shared with councillors who work closer with communities.
As relayed in all other shared public messaging, while the municipality apologises for the challenges experienced by communities during that difficult period of non-water availability and scarcity, we cannot thank the community enough for their patience.
