LETTER: A huge thumbs up for Krugersdorp Library
Resident praises a Krugersdorp librarian for going the extra mile to ensure her elderly mother-in-law could still enjoy books from home.
• Marita Janse van Vuuren writes:
I recently had a pleasantly surprising experience at the Krugersdorp Library.
I took my mother-in-law to the library on a Saturday, only to realise they do not have a wheelchair ramp for her to walk with her rollator. When asking about it, the security told me the entrance to the wheelchair ramp is permanently closed for safety reasons.
I was then introduced to Nomfezeko Mgilane to assist. She quickly made a plan for us to enter the premises so Mom can walk into the building where there are no stairs.

With the rollator, walking is still a challenge for Mom, so I asked Nomfezeko if the library perhaps has a mobile library service that can visit Mom at her home. She said the mobile library service stopped after the lockdown in 2020, and they now only visit old-age homes. She did, however, offer to speak to her seniors and said she would get back to me.
I did not expect this to go any further. But that Tuesday, Nomfezeko called to say her seniors agreed to offer the mobile service, and I should just let her know when Mom needs books again. She stayed in contact, and last Thursday, my mom received her first books delivered to her home. What a heartwarming experience this was.
I would like to thank Nomfezeko for her excellent service and caring attitude towards the elderly. Please keep up the good work, and may you be an inspiration for others.
