Two pupils from Itereleng Special School excelled in an indoor rowing competion held in Durban.
Two rowing athletes, Midrick Mabo (15) and Pollen Ndebele (20) packed their bags for Durban where they represented the Gauteng province in an indoor rowing competition.
Midrick managed to bag a gold medal and says proudly that it is being displayed on the living room wall in her parent’s home.
Rebecca Selepe coached the rowing athletes and says that her job mainly is to encourage the athletes to stay fit.
“I told them that I am not worried about their winning; all that matters to me is that they finish the competition to the best of their ability and have fun doing so.”
About the gold medal that Midrick pocketed, she says that it was the cherry on top.
“It already is a bonus that they have decided to choose rowing, but bringing back medals makes me very happy.”
Olga Molefe, school principal says that she is very proud of her pupils and is pleased that they have done so well.
“Here at the school we encourage our pupils to perform as a team and when they come back with good results they make us very happy.”
