Flamboyant fillies flaunt their fancy flanks
This was one of the best attended shows for the year, with 78 entries, including the mini horses.
Cedar Equestrian Club (CEC) hosted the fourth round of their Reining and Western Performance Qualifiers on Sunday, 4 June at Evermore Stables.
The prestigious event reflected CEC’s passion for all things Western and horse. Ronel Breedt, spokesperson for CEC, explained that for the riders Westernism is a way of life and for others, a chance to relax with family members, young and old.

During the event, competitors attempted to control their nerves and horses, and remember the various patterns, while trying to create the impression that they were simply the best.
This was one of the best-attended shows for the year, with 78 entries, including the mini horses, which was very encouraging for the future growth of the Reining and Western Performance horse discipline in South Africa and Gauteng.

All first and second places for the day received a prize or ribbon, with prizes being sponsored by Buco Saddlery, Riderware & Hardware Honeydew, and Cipla Vet.
Show Results:
• Youth Novice Q4 Champion – Danielle Harris
• Youth Intermediate Q4 Champion – Burlyn Breedt
• Adult Novice Q4 Champion – Stephanie Le Roux
• Adult Intermediate Q4 Champion – Victoria Conlyn
• Adult Open Q4 Champion – Neil Dougall
Some of the highlights included Neil Dougall’s highest score of the day. He achieved a 75 in the Western Dressage Class.
Danielle Harris competed in the Miniature Horses category and achieved a score of 70 on Spirit.
Mofat Nkosi not only competed in the Ranch Riding Horse and Western Horsemanship classes, but also won the prize for the best-dressed rider of the day.
The club’s next challenge will be the 2017 National Horseriding Convention, which will be held at the Parys Afridome from 28 June to 2 July. There will be four different Reining International events, allowing three runs over three days for each event.

This will allow selection for the Reining World Equestrian Games which takes place between 28 June and 8 July in 2018 at College Station in Texas, USA. Only the five best riders and a coach will be selected to go overseas.
CEC has fanned the flames for some Western riders in our midst, and looks forward to more riders putting their skills to the test.
