Couple leads training run
River paddlers are training hard as this year's canoeing season begins.
Husband and wife team Kobus and Caroline Filmalter finished a club-based canoe race in fourth position overall in 2 hours and 5 minutes, as the first Mixed Double (male/ female combination) team, and were also the first veteran age category podium finishers.
The couple took part in the race on the Klip River from Daleside to Meyerton, through Henley-on-Klip – a distance of some 30kms. The event was hosted by the Victoria Lake Canoe Club based at Germiston Lake.

River paddlers are training hard as this year’s canoeing season begins. Paddlers are building up stamina and endurance in the hopes of participating in the World Marathon Championships which takes place in South Africa this year.
Many are also getting back in shape for the wild white-water races in the peak rainy season later in the year.
