Great start for local runners

Road Runners' year off to a good start.

Krugersdorp Road Runners hosted the first big running race of the year at President Square recently and the 15km and 5km races saw some of the best and most talented athletes participating with great vigour.

The race started at dawn, in sunshine and warm weather and ended with a storm pelting down on the winners.

Simon Npholo was the first to cross the 15km line with a time of 50 minutes, 51 seconds. Close behind him was Lizzy Babili who won the women’s 15km race with a time of 1:5:26.

Each of them received R600, a gold medal and a George Foremen grill, sponsored by President Hyper.

Chané and Randel Rademan enjoyed the race together.

President Hyper also sponsored 70 spot prizes.

But some of the entrants did not do it for the prizes – there were parents taking their kids on a jog, puppy owners taking their fluffy friends on a trip around the hills, and even a few friends who thought this might be fun to do.

The athletics year started with a great deal of enthusiasm, and the runners will have lots to look forward to in the next few weeks.
