Cyclist aims for great heights
He hopes to qualify for the SA Championships as well as the World Championships that will take place in Switzerland during August.
“Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” This is the motto that pushes Hoërskool Monument cyclist, Keagan Bontekoning to give only his best whenever he gets behind the handlebars.

This Grade 12 learner, who manages to stun his audience over and over, has done it once again, by finishing second overall in the African Continental Championships which were held in Cairo, Egypt on 22 April. According to Keagan, only 25 cyclists from all over Africa were chosen to participate.
He is also currently ranked overall second in the SA Cross Country Cup Series. This national series, which started in February, consists of four rounds. With three rounds down, and one to go, Keagan hopes to walk away the winner of the final round in June.

With Jeroen Swart as his external coach, he hopes to qualify for the SA Championships as well as the World Championships that will take place in Switzerland during August.
“My medium-term goal is to participate in either the 2020 or 2024 Olympics, and I plan on giving it my all to get there,” he said.
Keagan is also proud of the following achievements:
• Completing eight 947 Cycle Challenges (finishing first in his category in 2014 and 2016)
• Winning a 55km Berge en Dale Cycling Competition
• Winning two Berg and Bush Cycling Competitions in 2016 and 2017
• Winning the Gauteng School Cycling Series in 2017
Hoërskool Monument is proud of its learner and trusts that he will reach great heights as a cyclist.
