Local bodybuilder a force to be reckoned with

Izak has had a fantastic season, and now he will stand back and support his wife at the Miss Universe competition in Italy.

Local bodybuilders, Izak Groenewald and his wife, Jacqueline, started preparing for their competitive season very early (in February) this year.

Izak trains for two hours a day, six days per week, in two sessions. The first session runs from 5.30am to 6.30am. In the evenings he trains from 7pm. Most of his training consists of weight training, with 45 minutes of cardio at night.

He competed in the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (IBFF) Welkom Classic in the Master over 50 class (Izak is 59) and placed fourth. He then went on to compete in the IBFF Klerksdorp Classic on 4 August and placed second in the Masters over 50 category. He also competed with the Young Guns in the Boardshorts division.

Izak also competed in the IBFF KZN on 18 August and placed second in the Masters over 40 category (there being no over 50 line-up), third in Bodybuilding under 90kg and fifth in Boardshorts. He qualified to compete in the South African Bodybuilding Championship, but decided not to participate in order to support Jacqueline in preparing for Miss Universe. She placed third last year, and both of them are keen for her to place better this year. She competes in the Miss Figure and Fitness categories.

Jacqueline, who is the owner of Supreme Being Fitness, is training for three hours per day, 7 days a week in preparation for Miss Universe, which takes place on 13 October in Italy.

Izak will focus on Masters over 60 for next year and his first show will be in June in Slovenia.
