Judokas go for gold
'Both have achieved excellent results in judo throughout the years.'
Two judokas from the KJK Judo Club achieved excellent results in kata at the recent SA Open Championships.
None other than Raydon and Garren Diab from Saint Ursula’s Catholic School won gold medals for two katas, namely Kime no Kata (self-defence) and Katame no Kata (grappling).
According to their sensei, Katja Bruwer, the pair have been participating in judo for most of their lives.
“Raydon (Grade 12) graded for his First Dan (black belt) in 2016 at the age of 16, and will be grading for his Second Dan at the end of this year. Garren (Grade 10) will be grading for his First Dan later this year,” she said.
“Both have achieved excellent results in judo throughout the years, especially in kata, in which they have been national champions in their age groups for many years.”
Raydon also won other medals, including gold for Nage no Kata (throws) with another partner Dewald Schultz, and bronze for Individual fighting in his division at the SA Open Judo Championships.
