You don’t need a beard to play rugby

Zandile (20) has been kicking all stereotypes to the curb since she took up rugby at the age of 10.

Zandile Khumalo, 20, from Kagiso, has been kicking all the stereotypes to the curb since she took up rugby at the age of 10.

She came across the sport when a few rugby coaches visited her primary school in an effort to recruit players.

She played for the Golden Lions for five years.

Zandile currently plays in the flank (Eighth woman) position for the University of Fort Hare’s Baby Blues in the Eastern Cape.

Some of her biggest achievements include making the U/18 and U/20 SA High Performance Camp Squads; representing SA students in Namibia at the World University Championships; and getting into the Eastern Cape provincial team known as Border Women.

She went on to say that the Baby Blues might even be representing South Africa in Lyon, France next year. However, even though the university is on board, her team is still in need of sponsors.

After completing her studies she would like to be part of the 2021 squad that’s going to the World Cup. If you would like to help or find out more, feel free to contact her on 076 839 6940 or send an email to slowjamkhumalo19@gmail.com.
