Over 1 000 runners showed up for the annual Berg and Dal Night Race

Krugersdorp Road Runners hosted its annual Night Race, which saw runners fill up the streets in front of President Square, on Wednesday.

Last week more than 1 000 runners gather in the streets in front of President Square.

Athletes readied themselves, tightening their laces, fastening their runner’s tickets and stretching out beside a group of their running buddies for the night.

The President Hyper Berg and Dal Night Race quickly shaped up to be a momentous event. Organisers said afterwards said that the event was very close in numbers to that of the previous year.

Athletes of all ages and sizes, from juniors to seniors stood one next to the other at the starting line, excitedly readying themselves for the 15km circuit which lay ahead. A few minutes later, the 5km runners followed suit.

Multiple clubs and licensed runners ran right alongside (and sometimes in front of) many casual runners just out for the fresh air and fun of it all.

In total, 825 runners finished the 15km race, while and 460 completed the 5km race. In the end, all finishers received a completion medal.

The results of the 15km race were as follows:

• Open Male first place: Nicolas Seoposengwe with a time of 51 minutes and 26 seconds

• Open Male second place: Shadrack Hoff with a time of 51 minutes and 39 seconds

• Open Male third place: Richard Mokoaledi with a time of 51 minutes and 45 seconds

• 60+ Age group first place: Alan Smith with a time of one hour 14 minutes and 21 seconds

• Open Female first place: Lizzy Babili with a time of one hour 3 minutes and 11 seconds

• Open Female second place: Dana Bianca van Zyl with a time of one hour 7 minutes and 10 seconds

• Open Female third place: Lesley Austin with a time of one hour 7 minutes and 47 seconds

For the runners’ convenience there were multiple refreshments tables stationed every few kilometres, and bathrooms, secure parking and medical personnel were available. President Hyper was the main sponsor of the entire event.
