Uniting people through sport at games

The aim is to unite the community, and build social development by engaging children, youth and young adults in sport.

The fun social sports day called the Oupa Malefo Games was recently held in Kagiso, and was a great success.

These games were started in 2016 and are held quarterly. Their aim is to unite the community, and build social development by engaging children, youth and young adults in sport.

Kagiso Rangers Football Club drew their game against Brothers in Football with a score of two all, so the match went to a penalty shootout. Rangers eventually won against Brothers, and was crowned with a trophy, medals and a cash prize of R4 000. Brothers received R2 000 in cash for taking second place.

Black Eagles from Katlehong, a netball team, showed no mercy to Pretoria Military in the final round, beating them 18–9. They won a trophy, medals and R3 000 in cash, while Military walked away with R1 800 in cash as second prize.

The Games also promote business in the community by giving local vendors the opportunity to sell their goods during the event.

There are 10 more games coming this year, and the dates will be confirmed in due course.
