A storm of dirt as motocross racers take on Dirt Bronco

Round 3 of 6 took place at the Dirt Bronco track and saw the best motocross racers in Gauteng face off against each other.

Dirt and dust in every nook and cranny, dirty hair and muddied clothes …

For many, this is the result of the perfect weekend. What’s better than a dirty day at a motocross racing track? Well, for these professional riders, the answer is competing in the Gauteng Regional Motocross Championship and kicking up clouds of dust at every corner.

Dirt Bronco is a respected track name in the off-road motocross world, and recently had the exceptional honour of hosting the third round of the aforementioned competition. The facility hosted both the second and third of six rounds and is one of only three premier tracks in Gauteng that were chosen for this prestigious competition.

The day saw 12 classes compete in a furious struggle against spinning wheels, tight corners and massive jumps to be the first to edge that front wheel across the finish line.

Competitors had to compete in various club events to qualify for the regional competition. The regionals, in turn, are a stepping stone to the national competition later in the year.

The winners on the day were:

• Tristan Purdon in the MX1 Senior division, with a second and first position in the two heats, with a best lap of 1:36.090.

• Jordan van Wyk in the 65cc division, with two first positions and a best time of 1:57.810.

• Adriano Catalano in the MX Clubman division, with a second and first position, and a best time of 1:46.260.
