Best birthday gift for local boytjie Brad Binder

The Austrian GP win was his 11th victory as a World Championship rider, on 11 August, which was also his birthday.

Brad Binder’s website, bradbinder41.com, announced that the Red Bull KTM Ajo had a magnificent home Grand Prix, capped by a winning performance from the birthday boy himself, Brad Binder.

The Potchefstroom-born and Krugersdorp-bred racer and Krugersdorp High School alumnus turned 24 on race day, 11 August, and gave himself a perfect gift by winning at the Red Bull Ring.

The information published on his website stated that Brad, who started from second on the grid, took the lead on the first corner. He held onto it for the 25 laps, but had to withstand pressure from a large group of riders just behind him.

The Austrian GP win was his 11th victory as a World Championship rider, all of them with Red Bull KTM Ajo, and his fourth in Moto2. He is now seventh in the overall standings with 109 points.

Motorsport Media, labels Binder as a South African Moto2 hero, saying he resisted incredible pressure as his pursuers quite literally fell one by one by the wayside to deliver an incredible home win. Compatriot Steven Odendaal enjoyed a solid ride to 20th in Moto2, while Brad’s brother, Darryn Binder ended 15th in Moto3.
