Tebogo is a rising hockey star from Kagiso!
On March 12 to 17, Tebogo Maseko from Kagiso was one of many athletes to represent his country and fly the Krugersdorp flag high in Egypt. He explains how his experience was and what the future holds.
Tebogo Maseko is a rising star in the sport of hockey having recently represented the national U21 hockey team at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Like many other talented youngsters in Kagiso, Tebogo is proof that with talent, discipline, and grit one can accomplish your goals and make it all the way.

Tebogo went to Krugersdorp High School (KHS) and matriculated with the class of 2021. It was from there on that he took interest in sports which would eventually lead to him finally playing at the highest level today. Tebogo has always been a sports enthusiast. He has tested his athleticism by playing sports such as soccer, rugby, cricket, and athletics. He chose hockey because of the positive influences and role models that made it a good environment for him to play well and improve as he was working his way up from playing at the school level to regional, provincial, and now national level. He recently played for the Proteas men’s U21 National Hockey Team at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The national team brought positive results as they won the majority of their matches and even beat the hosts Egypt in the final to win the whole tournament. Tebogo was excited with the results which meant that they qualified for the Junior World Cup taking place this year from December 5 to 16. The tournament will take place in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. After all his accomplishments Tebogo would explain what it all means.
“Looking back at all the sacrifices my mom had to make to ensure I make training sessions and trials all the sacrifices are finally showing themselves to have brought me here.”
He also explains what it means to represent his country and what his future holds.
“Quite a surreal moment,” he says.
“Looking back I would randomly see myself singing the national anthem and doing it on the international stage. I am honestly grateful and thank the lord that other kids will learn from my experience and see that it’s possible.”
The future for Tebogo does not only involve playing at the highest level for a long time and competing and winning prestigious tournaments. It also involves inspiring youngsters in his community and giving them hope and inspiring them to make their dreams a reality. The following quote by Muhammed Ali is what resonates with him the most and he hopes it resonates with any aspiring athlete.
‘If my mind can conceive it and my heart can believe it, I can achieve it.’
