KHS youngster among SA U17 squad at AFCON
Grade 10 learner from Krugersdorp High School (KHS) was named as one of the 23 young men who will have the honour of representing the Amajimbos at the AFCON Championships taking place in Algeria.
Thato Sibiya, a Grade 10 learner from Krugersdorp High School (KHS) is living the dream as pro footballer which finally realised when he represented the U17 South African national team at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The tournament started on April 29, and Thato was among the 23 youngsters in the squad hoping to bring home the gold.
Thato received his first call-up in November last year, around the same time that the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar took place. He described it as an incredible time to get the call-up since he was watching his idols, such as the Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr during the world cup weeks prior to his coaches giving him a very exciting phone call. He would receive another call-up to come to a training camp where the coaches would look into the young players’ performances and skills on April 9.

On April 18, it was the squad announcement and Thato would be named as one of the 23 young men who will have the honour of representing Amajimbos at the AFCON Championships taking place in Algeria.
Thato hopes to make his mark at the tournament and is proud to put his community on the map.
