Kagiso Striders hold their first race since Covid lockdown
After a two-year hiatus, the Kagiso Striders are up and running again.
The annual Kagiso Striders Athletics Club Youth Month Race resumed on Sunday at the Kagiso Sports Complex after a two-year ‘break’.
“As organisers, we encountered several organisational challenges and hitches and blame it on Covid for not having the event.

“This includes our situation with the local authorities and last minute pull out by some of the sponsors, but we are satisfied that the event went on. We even thought of cancelling, but this could have led to us being penalised by The Central Gauteng Athletics board and we could have been suspended for two years for not putting up any races. However, next year we promise a better-organised event,” said Dithapelo Tumane, Kagiso Striders chairperson and a member of the Central Gauteng Athletics Cross Country Commission.
“We are also going to host the Provincial Cross Country Championships in August and this time we will be ready.”
Lucky Mohale of Boxer won the 21km race in 1:08:42, followed in second spot by Samuel Moloi from Ekhayalethu Athletics Club in 1:08:44, and third was Gladwin Mzazi from Boxer in 1:09:52.
