Luke Griffith is the town’s golden boy

Krugersdorp’s jiu-jitsu master achieved more success, this time in the United States of America.

Luke Griffith continues to impress many with his jiu-jitsu skills after he bagged another gold medal, this time at the Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi World Championships recently.

The tournament was held from December 7 to 9 in Las Vegas in the USA. Some of the best athletes in the world showcase some of their skills and talent but it was Luke from Krugersdorp who walked away with the biggest honour after finishing first and making him the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) black belt world champion.

The IBJJF is a for-profit company that hosts several of the biggest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) tournaments in the world, including the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, World No-Gi Championship, Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship, and European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The company was created by Carlos Gracie Jr, who is the head of one of the largest BJJ schools, Gracie Barra.

For Luke, this accomplishment can be considered the tip of the iceberg for his already extraordinary list of accolades including being a two-time winner of the Abu Dhabi Combat Club European, Middle East, and African Championships, Grapple Fest Heavyweight Champion, three-time winner of IBJJF No Gi Pans weight gold medallist, two-time winner IBJJF Euro Championships gold medallist, winner of the IBJJF World Championship gold medallist (brown belt) and enigma heavyweight champion.

The Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi World Championships comes a month after Luke competed in the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi European Championships which concluded in Rome last month and where he achieved an adult brown belt double. Furthermore, Luke was declared the gold medal winner at the tournament.

Luke has been practicing jiu-jitsu since the age of six and his hunger for success remains the same.
