Nandre blooms into a Protea

Former Monument Primary and Hoërskool Monument High (Monnas) learner says it is a privilege and honour to be selected in the Proteas squad for the upcoming series against India.

Nandre Burger (28) achieved his dream of being selected for the national cricket team, better known as the Proteas, for the upcoming series against India.

This December and January, the Proteas will go head-to-head with rivals India in T20s, ODIs, and Tests with Nandre selected in the squad for all three formats of the game.

Nandre is a former Monument Primary learner and matriculated at Hoërskool Monument High (Monnas) in 2013. He then went on to study Sports Psychology at Wits.

“It’s a massive privilege and honour for me. I am looking forward to the national cricketing environment and am eager to contribute and learn as I go,” the seam bowler told the News.

Nandre is a left-arm fast bowler and currently represents Western Province. His best bowling figures in first-class cricket include 6/38 (ODI), 3/11 (T20) and 9/145 (four days).

He also impressively got a 5-wicket haul conceding just nine runs and six maidens in a first-class match between Western Province and the Lions in September which shows the talent of the young seam bowler.

An article in the Krugersdorp News dated 27 November 2009 predicted that Nandre is a Protea in the making. Photo submitted.
