Gold for Quins Old Crocks at Gauteng Cohesion games

Mogale City can be proud of both their oldies rugby and cricket teams who won gold and silver respectively at this year's Gauteng Premier Social Cohesion Games.

The West Rand was well represented and showcased their skills at the Gauteng Premier Social Cohesion Games that took place last month.

The Premier’s Social Cohesion Games were established in 2017 by the provincial government in collaboration with the Hellenic Italian and Portuguese (HIP) Alliance. The initiative aims to foster social cohesion and nation-building and mobilise Gauteng communities against racism and xenophobia.

According to the West Rand’s Sports Confederation, general Susara Snyman, each of the codes, teams, and clubs from the community were invited to enter their athletes in various categories or sporting codes from netball, rugby, cricket, and football to chess.

The Swaneville cricket team showcased their skills at the provincial games and bagged silver.

In the Legends Rugby category, the Krugersdorp Sports Club’s Quins Old Crocks won gold while in the Legends Cricket category, Swaneville Cricket Club won silver.

“No matter the age, when athletes have a passion for the sport they love, their contribution to the field can light a fire. The everlasting flame of sport becomes the winner,” Snyman said.

“We thank the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation together with the corridors of the West Rand, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni who made this day possible for all athletes across all walks of life to enjoy the games with passion, enthusiasm, and comradery.”
