No running event too challenging for Kevin (76)

With 32 Comrades behind his name, Kevin Duddy is still running strong at age 76.

Similarly to Forrest Gump, Khosa Road Runners’ Kevin Duddy cannot stop running.

On July 27, Kevin celebrated his 76th birthday by going for an early morning walk. Kevin said that this walk was a 5km with around 17 members joining him for his special day.

He added this was very special for him because running is close to his heart. Impressively, Kevin finished his 32nd Comrades Marathon consecutively, He is also on the Comrades’ list of top 100 medalists of all time.

At Comrades, Kevin managed to bag two silver, five Bill Rowan’s and 25 bronze medals in his lifetime. His fastest time yet is 07:25:19.

He said that when he was 18 years old, he started developing a passion for running and has been a member of the Khosa Road Runners for 39 years.

“I started training and finally in 1985 I competed in my first Comrades Marathon. I continued to compete for 32 consecutive years and in 2017, my 33rd Comrades, I had to drop out due to a back injury,” Kevin said.

He said that he was also the person in the club who organised the busses to the Comrades for the rest of the members to get there. He continued that he still carries on running, because of its health benefits.

After the walk, the members got together at the Khosa Club for coffee and cake, to celebrate his birthday and running legacy.
