Monique dominates the bodybuilding stage
Monique Giraud proudly represented Krugersdorp and the district by dominating all her divisions at a bodybuilding competition.
Standing head and shoulders above the rest is what Monique Giraud did at the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) South Africa Championships in Durban recently.
Proudly representing Krugersdorp and the West Rand, Monique has been a competitor in bodybuilding since 2017.
Each year the IFBB hosts a provincial show for each region and province where athletes participate to qualify to be selected for the South African Championships which is hosted in a different province each year. Last month, she competed at the combined West and East Rand provincial show and won that line-up which resulted in her qualifying for the SA Championships.
“Representing the West Rand every year is an honour. I know the district counts on me and that motivates me to try and win every event,” she said.
“My goal is always to make those around me proud. Achieving a title is so satisfying in every possible way. Knowing that I spent 25 weeks of blood, sweat, tears and time preparing for this win, and achieving what I set out to achieve is the most honourable and gratifying feeling. In 2024, I not only won my line-up, but I also won the overall title in my category. What that means is, each winner of the different line-ups of the category is placed in the final, and the judges select the best who then receives the overall title. The honour of this has no words to describe this feeling,” Monique added.
Apart from winning the Wellness Fitness Masters Division, her other accolades include:
• Three-time South African champion
• Five-time West Rand District (gold title winner)
• Eight-time qualifier show (gold title winner)
• Two-time Arnold Classic Africa (gold title winner)
