The club invited coaches from Protearif, Vikings and Bekkersdal boxing clubs to join in on the event, which took place on April 2, where they had the opportunity to assess the boxers’ skills, track their progress and set their goals.
The coaches tested the boxers on all the fundamental movements, punches and defenses, as well as their boxing stance and skipping, which is crucial since it improves hand-eye and foot co-ordination.
After the grading, Krugersdorp Boxing Club will work with their team for three months to prepare for tournaments.
“For grading, we only give a certificate,” said Frans Moller, the head coach of Protearif.
We have seven different grades as you go higher with grading, which is an improvement required to go to championships.
“When boxers begin competing in competitions, they win trophies and they are also recognised as members of an academy squad that is chosen for championships, where they will be scouted for national championships before being recognised for international competitions and titles,” he said.

Phillip Durandt, the coach from Vikings, said they keep an eye on the boxers’ improvement for three to four months.
We gauge their readiness to attend grading at the West Rand Districts Academy.”
Joseph Dlangamandla, coach of Bekkersdal, mentioned they received their boxing license and code of conduct and are now ready to box.
“Even though our boxers are graded by a different coach, they will add it to what we taught them.”
Boxers demonstrated their talents in a fair and competitive setting at the event, as the grading system draws in new competitors and viewers.
