Matthew Wilson will compete in Sweden from 8 to 13 July. According to Curro’s marketer, Dibuseng Maboya, he forms part of the first-ever team from Karate South Africa (KSA) to take part in a global tournament not organised by the World Karate Federation (WKF) – a significant milestone for the sport in South Africa.

The WUFK, headquartered in Belgium, is the international governing body for sport karate, with 85 member countries.

Matthew’s journey to this point has been one of resilience and transformation,” Dibuseng said.

Matthew’s father, Simon Wilson, shared a powerful tribute to his son’s growth and determination.

“Matthew has proven that hard work and perseverance pay off. From a background of being bullied to now standing up for those who are being bullied, I am exceptionally proud of the young man he continues to be. Often, children look up to us as parents for encouragement and support. However, I often find myself looking to him for encouragement and a strong shoulder. We are all blessed to call him a son, a brother, and a friend.”

Dibuseng added that Matthew’s story is not only one of athletic achievement but also of personal triumph and inspiration.

As he prepares to represent his country on an international platform, the Curro and Krugersdorp community and indeed the nation stand behind him with pride.”
