Summit gymnasts soar with 23 golds at Gauteng competition

Summit Gymnastics Club proved they’re a force to be reckoned with after raking in 23 gold medals at a recent Gauteng competition.

Gymnasts from Summit Gymnastics Club competed and impressed at the Gauteng Festival Competition from June 13 to 16 at the National Training Centre for Gymnastics South Africa in Eldoraigne.

Owner of the club, Lauren Smith, explained that their level 1 to 3 gymnasts are at a participation level and received 23 gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals.

In addition, 35 gymnasts earned their central Gauteng junior colours.

Eighteen of their gymnasts were in the top 10 of their sections, and five received special awards for scoring the highest on an individual apparatus. They are Amy Carbis, Mia-Lome Saayman, Demi le Roux, Mené van Niekerk and Ava-Lynn Eloff.

The overall section winners are:

• Amy Carbis, on level 1
• Ava-Lynn Eloff, on level 1
• Demi le Roux, on level 2
• Maria Suping, on level 2
• Amoné Marais, on level 2

Amy was also the overall highest scoring level 1 across all age groups,” Lauren said.
