Bafeletse Morero, a Grade 10 learner at Curro Krugersdorp High School, was awarded a prestigious soccer scholarship to Plymouth College, an independent boarding school in the United Kingdom.
He will leave on Friday, September 5, to start a 12-month programme combining elite soccer training with a unique academic experience.
According to school marketer Dibuseng Maboya, Plymouth College offers a progressive learning environment where students are assessed continuously based on their strengths and interests, rather than through traditional examinations.
“This approach is designed to support learners like Bafeletse, who excel in both academics and sport,” she said.
Bafeletse’s mother, Kgomotso Morero, shared her pride and excitement about the opportunity.
“I started noticing his talent from as early as six years old, that’s when I realised he’s really good at soccer. He’s so passionate about the game, and when he’s on the field, it comes so naturally to him,” she said.
Kgomotso added that while she is thrilled about his achievement, she is also a little nervous about him being away from home for a year.
Dibuseng explained that Bafeletse was selected for the scholarship after his potential and dedication to the sport were recognised.
“The opportunity at Plymouth will allow him to refine his skills in a professional setting while continuing his education in a supportive and dynamic environment.”
Curro High principal David Felgate further expressed his pride in Bafeletse’s accomplishment.
“We are beyond proud of him and wish him all the best in this exciting new journey. His talent, discipline and passion have brought him this far, and we know he will continue to thrive. Bafeletse’s story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance and the support of a nurturing school and family. Curro Krugersdorp celebrates his achievement and looks forward to seeing the impact he will make both on and off the field,” David concluded.
