Six team N’zuri firefighters selected for elite Charnaud Race in Sandton

Chosen as part of just 50 firefighters nationwide, Team N’zuri’s members will race up Sandton’s tallest building in honour of Charnaud’s 50-year celebration.

After being crowned national champions at the National Toughest Firefighter Alive competition earlier this year, Team N’zuri is now preparing for its next challenge.

Six of their members will compete in the Charnaud Race on December 6. According to their coach, Manie Gouws, they are among only 50 firefighters selected from across the country to take part in this event.

The selected members are Maithamako Moswete, Johannah Belali, Ontiretse Pule, Vincent Naude, Finny Motlatse and Manie Gouws.

These brave men and women will take on the race to the top of the Leonardo Hotel in Sandton. Manie explained that they will be climbing the stairs in full firefighting gear.

“Charnaud has also designed special kits for the competitors, and only selected 50 participants in honour of their 50th anniversary,” Manie added.

The Leonardo stands 243 metres tall, with 57 floors and 1 194 stairs. Manie concluded by saying the team has trained hard and hopes to reach the top first.
