Krugersdorp bowlers end season on a high
Krugersdorp Bowling Club closed their season on a high, taking home gold, silver and bronze at the prestigious Sables Open Master Tournament in Rustenburg.
Sables District players wrapped up their 2025 season over the weekend of November 22.
Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) spokesperson David Parker said the players competed at the Rustenburg Bowling Club during the Sables Open Master Tournament. This singles tournament for men and women brings together winners of the Invitational and Veterans Tournaments for one of the most prestigious events on the bowls calendar.
He said 12 men and 12 women competed for the title of master winner, with KBC sending five women and six men to contest for medals.
Parker praised their performances, saying, “They produced some excellent bowls over the weekend. The spirit at KBC led to our players finishing on the podium at the end of the tournament.”

Debbie Phillips earned gold for her consistent performance throughout the weekend, while Winson Malobolo narrowly missed out on first place, taking silver after a tight final. Devin de Jongh and Corrie Tagg both claimed bronze with strong performances.
Sables president Brian Oxley described the weekend as excellent, highlighting the top-class bowls and the smooth organisation by the hosts.
“The spirit of the KBC players was once again evident,” added Parker.
KBC president Andy Selby said it was encouraging to see new faces among the medal winners and reflected on a successful year.
“Players featured in semi-finals and finals of every Sables Tournament this season. We look forward to next year’s season,” he concluded.
