This weekend we welcomed winter with closed arms … because it was too cold to open them!

The icy cold rain presented winter in its fabulous glory and I for one am happy that summer is gone (for now at least).

I think we need to be grateful for the rain that fell this past weekend and we need to appreciate what winter means for our country.

Of course I understand that the cold weather brings along a lot of problems for homeless people, sheltered animals and our environment.

But it is not such a hopeless case after all; there are things we can do to help.

We can support local charity organisations with their blanket drives. We can sponsor a homeless person with a Tower of Life voucher. A voucher consists of a warm bed for the night, a hot shower and meal.

How about visiting the local shelters and give some warmth through comfort and love to a four-legged friend?

There is a lot we can do to prepare for winter; all you have to do is take the first step.

What am I going to do?

First and foremost, I am going to go down on my knees every night and thank the good Lord for the roof over my head and my warm bed I sleep in every night.

Until next week, Krugersdorp. Keep warm!
