Increase in hijackings specifically on the R559, N12 and R41 roads – West Rand District Police Commissioner.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner warned about an increase in hijackings around the West Rand area.

“We would like to urge business owners and community members to be extra vigilant, specifically when using the R559, N12 and R41 roads,” he said after police in the West Rand District made 84 arrests in the 13 policing districts during a joint and intensified crime-prevention operation over the weekend.

These safety tips could save your life:
• Always drive with your doors locked.
• If you suspect you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station or a busy public area.
• Do not stop when another driver signals that you have a flat tyre or that there is a problem with your vehicle.
• Do not pick up hitchhikers.

The public is encouraged to report any criminal activities to the nearest police station immediately, or contact the Crime Stop Line on 08600 10111, communicate via the My SAPS app, or to use the SMS line 32211 and remain anonymous.
