It takes a village to raise a child – Magaliesburg cops

Children were taught about their rights and their safety..

Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere from the Magaliesburg Police Station reminded the community that the saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ pointed out their important role in rearing children.

This statement came at the end of Child Protection Week when the Magaliesburg police addresses early childhood learning centres at the GA-Mogale Community park on Thursday, June 2.

They were joined by a multi-disciplinary team that consisted of the Magaliesburg police, the Department of Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mogale City Social Development, the Department of Health, the Teddy Bear Clinic, Education of Hope, WestRand Youth Development, LifeLine, and Young Media Minds.

This year’s theme was ‘Protect our Children’ and they spoke to learners and teachers from the Heart Day Care, Thuto-Boswa Day Care, King Kids Day Care, and the combined Mogale Early Learning Centre.

“Children were taught about their rights and their safety.”

Some of the topics included children abuse, child neglect, human trafficking, missing children, bullying, and health and safety issues.

“Children were encouraged to know their home addresses and their parents’ names. In addition they were taught the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 through singing, and were reminded to report any abuse to a trusted family member.”

The children were also showered with presents from stakeholders, and the celebration concluded with a prayer by singing the South African National Anthem.
