Fuel price decrease presents a breather for some

Motorists who use diesel will be especially pleased with the fuel price adjustments.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced the fuel price adjustments for April, and it does present some relief for motorists, especially users of diesel.

Our fuel prices are driven by the international oil price. The current reduction is the result of a slightly lower crude oil price that currently stands at USD79.24.

The fuel levy and the Road Accident Fund on both petrol and diesel will, as per Enoch Godongwana’s, the minister of finance, announcement in his February budget speech, remain unchanged for the second year in a row.

The inland increases/decreases are as follow:

  • Petrol (93 ULP and LRP) – a decrease of one cent per litre
  • Petrol (95 ULP and LRP) – an increase of two cents per litre
  • Diesel (50ppm) – a decrease of 73.58 cents per litre
  • Diesel (10ppm) – a decrease of 74.58 cents per litre
  • Paraffin:  decrease of 124.90 cents per litre

The AA said the decrease in the diesel price is particularly important as this is a major consumable within the agricultural, transport and mining industries.
