Speaking to the Herald in an interview, Tinotenda, who is in Grade 10 and a resident of Kagiso said it has been a long time coming for her.

“I am thrilled to have won the title. It means so much to me. Although self-doubt kicked in after having lost a pageant at my previous school last year, I’m happy to have soldiered on and made it this far. I also appreciate my school for acknowledging me,” said Mashamba. She added that she took up modelling back when she was young and has bagged a few titles growing up.

She added that she had to take a break from what she considered ‘her passion’ due to the lack of funds in previous years.

“I, unfortunately, had to stop modelling for some time due to a lack of funding. I went back into that space last year again at my previous school and I unfortunately lost but I told myself that giving up is not an option,” said Tinotenda.

Asked about what’s next for her, the new title holder said she wants to enter Miss Teen South Africa 2023.

“I am confident about the prospects of winning. I also want to give Miss Gauteng Teen 2023 a shot,” she concluded.
