Are you ready for a riot?

Running Riot is a frantic farce!

Neighboring Roodepoort’s very own Roodepoort Little Theatre has announced their latest slap-stick comedic genius show titled ‘Running Riot’ by Derek Benfield which will be on show at Roodepoort’s Basement Theatre.

What is it all about now? Well, Running Riot is a frantic farce about a henpecked greengrocer, Humphrey Podmore (Mark Worrell), who books himself into L’Auberge Blanche, a small hotel somewhere in France, to have some respite from his domineering wife, Agnes (Traci Scerri). Humphrey is mistaken for a champion British runner who is predicted to do well in the 5 000 metres in the Olympics. Felix (Hendrik Greyvenstein), the hotel’s proprietor, is honored to entertain such a distinguished guest, but his daughter, Nicolette (Anita Herbst), is dissatisfied that Humprey’s physique falls short of her expectations.

Miss Hacket (Kathy Slade) is a notable taskmaster who takes on the task of whipping the befuddled “athlete” into shape. As if Humphrey didn’t have enough troubles, he is drawn into the realm of espionage when he is approached by Bruchik (Neil Wilson), a menacing foreign spy disguised as a fellow runner, and Pauline (Sylvia Nikolaoy), his beautiful accomplice. Meanwhile, another visitor, the suave Basil Trent (Graham Shirley), quickly discovers that Humphrey isn’t who everyone believes he is. He lays a large bet on his new-found friend, only to be disappointed when the genuine athlete, Joe Smith (Will Neilson), shows up.

Will Humphrey be able to escape his nagging wife and the threatening Bruchik? Will Basil win the lovely Nicolette but lose his shirt (and possibly his trousers) in the process? What exactly is the mysterious Pauline up to? Will Felix’s hotel be there at the end of the play? Will the Olympics ever be the same again? Find out by joining RLT Productions at the Roodepoort Basement Theatre in June.

Catch the play on Friday, June 9 at 19:30 or Saturday, June 10 at 14:30 or 19:30 to find out. Prices range from full price for R100, R80 for pensioners or students, or if you are booking 10 tickets or more you pay R70 a ticket. Bookings are essential and are open.
