Traditional wedding games leave two dead

Stick fighting turns fatal for two wedding guests.

A stick-fighting game ended in two deaths at a wedding ceremony in Hlabisa in KwaZulu-Natal, Zululand Observer reports.

Male guests engaged in ‘umgagela’ (stick fighting) when one of them reportedly drew a firearm and shot 40-year-old Mbuyiseni Langelinzima Gazu twice in the forehead.

Hlabisa police said the motive for the shooting was still unknown.

Gazu was rushed to the Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban, but died while receiving treatment.

Outraged by the attack, the community assaulted suspect Thabiso Qiniso Mlotshwa, 38, with sticks, bringing the fatal wedding deaths to two.

He died at the scene from multiple head and body injuries.

Two murder cases were opened.
