Tzaneen talent on show at Maruleng Mayor’s race

A strong Tzaneen contingent took on the Maruleng Mayor’s Half Marathon., with runners from Nkowankowa AC, Tzaneen Marathon Club and more among the results.

TZANEEN – Athletes from across the Tzaneen region turned out in strong numbers for the Maruleng Mayor’s Half Marathon on Saturday, September 26, with runners from Nkowankowa AC, Tzaneen Marathon Club, Letaba Road Runners and Le Club among those making their mark.

Nkowankowa runners lead the charge

In the 21km race, Nkowankowa AC’s Allen JB Maswanganyi was the club’s leading finisher, completing the race in 01:28:26.2 to finish 13th overall and first in the junior (15–19) category.

Mphumiey Lucent Mavasa also claimed first place in the female junior category, finishing fourth among women in 01:39:42.7. Teammate Thato Motsatsi Seshoka was second in the same category, crossing the line in 01:50:36.0.

Tzaneen clubs take on the 21km

Tzaneen Marathon Club’s Nathaniel Mafogo finished in 01:56:37.6, placing 30th overall and 19th in the senior men’s category. Cleopas Muradzikwa completed the course in 02:40:38.5, while Regina Adesanya recorded 03:09:24.7, finishing seventh in the female 40+ category.

Letaba Road Runners was represented by Moipolai Andries, who finished in 01:59:16.6, placing eighth in the male 40+ category. MP Shokane completed the race in 02:04:27.9, while Mabushe Matemane finished in 02:23:28.5.

Strong results continue in the 10km

The 10km race also produced strong performances.

Nkowankowa AC’s Ephraim Ntsanwisi finished in 40:22.0, placing first in the male 50+ category. Angelic Nyathela Mkhawana won the female junior (15–19) category in 42:38.7, while Xena Bayana completed the race in 1:27:19.0.

Other Nkowankowa AC runners included Kunene Tshimbana (01:27:19.5), Sherell Wisani Mashele (01:27:39.1), Khaphathe Mokgomole (01:38:16.9) and Moshitadi Rakgoale (01:39:44.6).

More local runners cross the line

Tzaneen Marathon Club’s Mokibelo Motshana finished in 58:55.4, while Le Crenis Mathebula and Nontembeko Mbambazela recorded 01:16:15.8 and 01:16:17.7, respectively.

Phumzile Shaku finished in 01:16:56.8, followed by Bianca Tladi in 01:20:42.1.

Letaba Road Runners’ Motshidisi Malatsi finished in 01:16:37.7, while Mositadi Mathule and Khutjo Sekgotodi crossed the line in 01:32:26.3 and 01:32:27.3.

Le-Club’s Amore Coetzee completed the 10km in 52:18.9, finishing third in the female junior category.
